Arik Chan, Singapore
Started photography in 1980, travel photography is his forte. The in-house photographer for the Police Life magazine in 1990 and have since 2003, conducted numerous computer related courses and photography workshops for TRACOM( formerly known as the Police Academy) and the Singapore Police Force.
After trying out digital cameras, there is no way I'm going back to film :) My first digital camera was in 1997, a Fuji digital that shoots only 640 by 480 pixels! Mobilephones can do better than this :) Since then I have used Fuji s2pro, Kodak 760, Kodak DCS 14n, Nikon D300, D90, D5000, Olympus E520, Ep1, Panasonic Lumix G1, Sony SLT55 and also a Dicomed (Betterlight) 4x5 scanning back. Along the way, I have used prosumer cameras like the Panasonic Lumix FZ35,FZ40, FZ100, Olympus 650 and the Sony HX100V.
I have always like testing new gadgets and have tried to chased the most pixels loaded camera and that explains why I have changed my systems so many times. Hopefully this craze will die off soon so that I can spend more time doing the actual photography.
Having been blessed by 3 mentors, I hope to share these blessings too!
Mr Koh Ah Leck, a good friend and my first mentor in the early eighties, it is at his home that I saw my first black and white print emerging. An avid photographer till now, we still occasionaly travel together for photography despite our different schedules.
Mr Yip Hoi Kee, a much sought after photography instructor from the 1980s, I was fortunate to have attended his Basic Photography Course in 1985 and have learned much from him. I thanked him for his genorisity with his lenses and equipment and till now consider him one of the best photographic instructor around.
Mr Tan Jiak Hee, a renown colour print and darkroom specialist since the early eighties. It was at his home (international photographic awards adorn his cupboards) that I see colour prints and darkroom techniques which he freely shared with me. Unfortunately due to business committment, he has spend less time in the photographic circle.
